Boudicca is a sister ship of Black Watch also sailing within the Fred Olsen fleet. She is just a year younger than Black Watch and about to reach her 40th year of service in 2013. It’s true that age is just a number, Boudicca is still admired for her elegant shape and classic design that remains almost timeless, mixing a traditional cruise style with modern day modifications in a seamless harmony.
Boudicca is a small to medium sized ship, described as having ‘an intimate atmosphere’ she sails with just 880 passengers as standard. On-board she has plenty of space to absorb passengers yet provide a friendly experience with a subtle blend of both formal and informal cruising, making her an ideal ship to choose for a first-time cruiser.
Life on-board is distinctly British and the majority of passengers British retirees, the décor British themed throughout, there is no glitz and glamour on board Boudicca, this is traditional luxury cruising and the appearance overall is stylish and a homage to the golden days of cruising in the 1920’s-30’s.
Staterooms are clean and comfortable if a little dated, this is a classic ship of course. All staterooms come with a bathroom and shower plus TV and a safe for personal belongings.
Cuisine and dining on-board Boudicca is a mix of formal and informal. The menu in the Four Seasons (the main restaurant) is limited but all food prepared perfectly and with good honest dishes such as Beef Wellington, roast belly of pork and steamed puddings to follow. The Secret Garden Cafe is an on-board self-service restaurant with an oriental/ contemporary style and without specific dining times. This is a popular destination for a more informal dining experience and a good place to meet fellow passengers in a relaxed surrounding.
Entertainment on-board Boudicca is a mixture of cabaret and live music. Very much worth a visit is The Observatory lounge bar. Sit back in a relaxed surrounding and enjoy the panoramic views whilst listening to the resident pianist tinkle the ivory.
There is plenty of facilities on-board to cater to your well-being and fitness, an adequate promenade deck for a brisk stroll a fully equipped gymnasium as well a swimming pool. After all that exertion you’ll want to get right back to enjoying yourself, Boudicca has on-board sauna, spa and beauty salon facilities to ease those tired muscles and make you feel relaxed.
