Aurora is a middle weight cruise ship, fifth largest in the P&O fleet, instantly recognisable by her horse-shoe shaped, four-tier stern. She is an ocean going vessel, comfortably capable of cutting through waves and making round the world voyages.
Aurora is described by some as ‘plain’, ‘uninteresting’ and ‘old-fashioned’. This just adds to the charm, Aurora is distinctly a British market ship, her cruises are good-honest value for money, they may not be as lavish and extravagant as other cruises, however a voyage on-board Aurora provides more than just the basics of a cruise-experience. You’ll find something to moan about, the British love to moan, but you will also fall in love with Aurora and that is perhaps the emotional harmony that British holiday makers require.
Life on-board is stripped back, with not much by way of décor. Aurora, being a world voyager, appeals primarily to retirees who have time to spend months at sea (a world cruise can usually take 103+ days), so as you can imagine the atmosphere is very relaxed and enjoyable with a good deal of story sharing and opportunities to make a wealth of new cruise-friends.
Staterooms range in price and size however they are described as spacious and very comfortable, they need to be for such long adventures. Again fittings and décor are simple in standard and mini cabins. Penthouse suites are much more luxurious of course with polished wood finishes and marble bathrooms.
Be sure you take some time to venture to the Crow’s Nest lounge for a drink or two. From this vantage point you’ll get the best views from the ship, so be sure to take your camera.
Dining is split into two main restaurants each offering a wide range of cuisines to suit all tastes. There is also Café Bordeaux created by Marco Pierre White as the name suggests this is a French-style bistro and open 24 hours.
Aurora has plenty of space to exercise; her long promenade deck is ample for walking or jogging. Her sky-dome can cover the pool-area making it available even in the pouring rain. The on-board gym has adequate facilities to keep yourself trim, afterwards take some time to relax those muscles from your work-out with a trip to the sauna and whirlpools.
